New Numbering for HiPP Baby Milk Boxes
HiPP has recently changed the numbering on the packs of baby formula. Why? After talking to parents and Healthcare Professionals, HiPP decided to bring their labelling in line with other brands on the market. Fewer numbers makes it easier for moms and dads to select the right formula milk for the right stage of life. The following changes have now been made to the front of the packs:
- First Infant milk is still number 1
- Hungry milk will not have a number on the front of the pack
- Follow on milk (previously Stage 3) will now be number 2
- Growing up milk will now be number 3–this is formula for 1+ year infants
These new packs will be changing in 2015, but please don’t worry if you see a mixture of packs in the meantime. The formula is staying exactly the same so your baby will not notice any difference.
My daughter is 10 months old and we have been using First Infant Milk since she was 3 months old and I stopped breastfeeding. Since I order in bulk, I need to plan ahead to switch her formula. She is only eating 2 to 3 oz of baby food per day and she eats about 30 oz of formula a day. What is the difference in Follow On Milk and Growing Up Milk and when should I start using them? Will the changes in formula version hurt her stomach – what should I expect when I change the formula?
Thanks so much for your help!
Thank you for your question. HiPP’s Follow On Milk contains more iron for babies and is designed to be used after 6 months. Growing Up Milk is a toddler milk, that can be used after your baby is 1 years old and your baby should not notice any change from Follow On to the Growing Up Milk.
Parents will buy Growing Up Milk to feed up to 24 months. Some babies experience constipation after switching to whole milk at 1 year old, as their guts are still developing the proper bacterial flora needed. Since HiPP contains probiotics, the toddler formula can often alleviate this constipation as they grow out of it and also provide them the vitamin nutrients needed. Another alternative to a toddler milk is to add a probiotic to your baby’s whole milk, which many parents do.
My daughter is 7 months old & has been on stage 1 since birth & hasn’t had any problems. She eats about 24-28 Oz a day & we are trying to introduce baby food slowly.
She has slept 12+ hours since about 6 weeks old but recently is waking up multiple times throughout the night??
Would you suggest stage follow on milk, hungry milk or goodnight milk??
THANKS IN ADVANCE:)
KIM
Hi, thanks for your question. You may want to consider trying a thicker formula for nighttime feedings. At her age, the best trial you can make it to try Goodnight as it is the thickest and contains rice cereals. It could help if she is waking from hunger, although there might be other things that are causing her to wake and you’ll have to just sort that out. Sometimes babies get too hot at night (their bodies run hotter than adults), sometimes its just changes to their bodies and growth, sometimes its noises or alerts at the light stages of sleep, or lights being on, and sometimes it’s just needing mom. It is challenging when you have a baby that doesn’t sleep. You can almost always successfully return babies to sleep without food…but it takes a lot of effort on mom’s part to do this, rocking, caressing, getting skin-to-skin, good use of the pacifier. It can be done! Since she is eating, you can also try a few scoops of cottage cheese before going to bed some nights to see if that helps. Hope this helps!
Hi 🙂 my son will be 7 months next week and eats a little bit of solids. We’ve never tried Hipp before but I went by what the box said so I purchased the follow on milk now I’m concerned it’s not going to be the right fit?
Hi, we always recommend Stage 1 coming off of breastmilk, however your son is an appropriate age for Follow On milk, so if he does well on it, it is a good formula to keep him on for the added iron.
What is the difference in nutritional content between follow on milk (2) and toddler milk (3)?
Every stage of HiPP has been adapted to meet your infant’s unique vitamineral needs at specific ages. The Toddler milk is designed to provide the right amount of vitamins and minerals for an infant 12 to 24 months.

Where can I buy it? I live in Canada
She eating solid food but still wake up during the night and don’t know why??
Thank you in advance
Hi, thanks for your message. Constipation has been a more common complaint we have seen with other organics. When you switch, you will just want to do a slow transition, as this will ensure that the formula change is not causing any added issue. We have an article on how to fill the bottles during a transition. Stage 1 First Infant is the best formula to start with and stay with until 1 year. Regarding the night feedings, this is very common. It is not always the case, but most often, infants wake up and feed from a bottle during the night as a self-soothing measure. A pacifier can sometimes help, or sleeping with mom/being stroked by mom, or a variety of things. It is unfortunately something a great many moms bear with in the first 1-2 years of their baby’s life.
